TORONTO - Ten reasons to learn to cook, from chef and educator Maribel Linfield:

1. Money

For the price of one fine dining meal, you could buy groceries for the week. For the price of fast food, you eat fine dining meals.

2. Health

You control the salt, sugar and fats. Plus, no preservatives.

3. Time Saver

Going to a restaurant is not faster (travel, parking, ordering, waiting, eating, pay bill, drive home again). Even drive-thru lines are getting ridiculous.

4. Pride

You possess a valuable life skill.

5. Sex Appeal

One of the most admired sexy traits in both men and women.

6. Climb Social Ladder

Take a date out to dinner, you may get a second date. Make your date a nice dinner, you will get a second date.

7. Climb Professional Ladder

Take your boss out to dinner, you may get that promotion. Make your boss a great dinner, you will get that promotion.

8. Basic Instinct

It's something we do every day. Reading, writing, math, EATING!

9. Brings People Together

All great celebrations in life involve food. Be a participant, not just a spectator. Enjoy entertaining more.

10. World Peace

Food is love! Be hospitable to all, even with little things, without reservation or expectation.
