Arcola's Darlene Olsen received some recent 'Applause' for her fundraising efforts which have raised over $500,000 for Look Good Feel Better (www.lgfb.ca), a charity which helps women deal with the physical and emotional effects of cancer treatment. Olsen has also assisted the Moose Mountain Medical Recruitment Committee and this year, plans to partner the non-profit Arcola Day Care at Creative Tables 2018.

Olsen is featured in the current issue of Mary Kay Cosmetics' Applause magazine. In an article entitled “What A Difference A Decade Makes,” the publication lauds Olsen's 10 years of fundraising for 'Look Good Feel Better' via Creative Tables for Cancer, calling the annual Arcola event “a unique and heartfelt fundraising effort.”

Olsen - who is celebrating her 39th year as an Independent Senior Sales Director with Mary Kay - insists: “It's not about me.”

“The world is not about you. It's not about me. It's about everyone else. And the only time you're important is when you're helping somebody else.”

“Indeed it is an honour to be recognized for the fundraising that has been done for Look Good Feel Better and also for the past five years for the Moose Mountain Recruitment Committee,” says Olsen. “Thanks to (Applause magazine) from all of our volunteers and myself.”

“I've just celebrated my 39th year as a Mary Kay consultant and with 10 years of Creative Tables for Cancer and a few fashion shows we've held before then, we've managed to raise over $500,000 for Look Good Feel Better,” explains Olsen.

“This has been accomplished by the generosity and support of the local businesses, volunteers, hostesses and individuals who attend Creative Tables. I sincerely want to thank the many, many people who make this event so successful.”

“Without you - none of this would happen!”

Olsen's efforts on behalf of Look Good Feel Better are longstanding and hands-on, even pre-dating Creative Tables for Cancer.

“For more than 20 years, I've been a Look Good Feel Better volunteer at the Allan Blair Cancer Center in Regina,” she says. “I help run workshops where we work with women who are undergoing treatment for cancer. The oldest woman I've given a makeover to was 85 and the youngest was only 16.”

“Individuals sometimes feel insignificant and doubt that one person can really make a difference in this world. Well, believe me, one person can.”

“We're already planning this year's Creative Tables,” says Olsen. “ Please mark your calendars and join us in making this event another success.”

The 2018 edition of Creative Tables for Cancer will take place Thursday, Oct. 11 at Prairie Place Hall in Arcola.
