Richardson Pioneer reps in Lampman had the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of spring – despite a little snow – by donating $25,000 through the Richardson Foundation to the Lampman Pool.

The Richardson Foundation is focused on “helping create sustainable futures for registered Canadian charitable organizations in the Visual and Performing Arts, Education, Youth Initiatives, and Environmental Issues,” the mission statement explains online.

They have supported various community initiatives as well including splash parks, playgrounds, sports fields, arenas, community halls, and volunteer fire departments.

Local Richardson Pioneer Manager in Lampman, Trevor Woroniuk, added, “The Richardson Foundation is in place for efforts like this. Applications are sent in and those on the Foundation meet every three months to go through the applications and decide who and how much.”

For the Town of Lampman and R.M. of Browning, a donation of this magnitude from Richardson Pioneer to the Lampman Pool (a jointly operated entity by the town and R.M.) allows for upgrades that they had been hoping to fundraise towards.

Brittany Fox, Rec Director, explained, “There are a few upgrades that we’re working on. One of the largest projects is to replace the pool liner – this will be our last season with the original pool liner – 24 years, which is longer than average for pool liners.”

“The company that did the original pool is going to be coming back to do the upgrade on the liner.”

The Pool Committee organized efforts to fundraise previously and were able to have the kiddy pool liner replaced last spring. Their efforts in fundraising now were focused on the pool liner, but they are also looking at other upgrades as well if they are able to get the funds in place.

“If we’re able to raise enough funds we would like to get new flooring in the pool house, new deck material at the deep end, a slide, diving board, and a new guard chair,” Fox added.

“Thank you for your support so far and we’ll be looking to do more fundraisers to help with the costs of the pool upgrades.”

The donation from Richardson Pioneer is a huge help in the Pool Committee reaching their goals.

“We’re more than happy to support projects like this to help sustain small communities,” Woroniuk stated.

He added, “We live and work in the community, so it’s important to give back.”

Currently the Pool Committee is looking at smaller fundraisers like a Spring Potted Succulent Fundraiser, are looking at acquiring a screen to show movies at the pool throughout the season, and more.

“We will hopefully be open June 1st,” Fox said. “And it will be closed early this year, Aug. 7 will be the last day, so that we can replace the pool liner this fall.”
