Thursday, July 10 seemed like a normal summer day in Saskatchewan. The air was warm, large fluffy clouds could be seen on the horizon and there were tornado warnings for the area. Nothing terribly out of the ordinary.

Drivers traveling the number 48 on July 4 saw a unique site – four men trotting along on horseback. The town of Carlyle has nominated Paul Twietmeyer for the 2008 Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award in the volunteer category.
For more than 30 years Twietmeyer has been an integral part of the arts community in Carlyle and been a key figure in countless projects. As part of the nomination a list of Twietmeyers achievements was compiled, that list ran three pages in length and included: founding member of Cornerstone Theatre; participated in more than 50 live performances; taught oil painting; acquired and installed a new projector and sound system in the theatre; a complete renovation of the theatre; taught young people how to run the equipment in the theatre; active member of Cornerstone Theatre and Hall Board; coordinated and participated in the Carlyle Mural Project. In its third year the Kenosee Lake Kitchen Party is not bigger than ever running for a full ten days.

Since late June Pheasant Rump First Nation, in cooperation with Yorkton Tribal Council Family Services, has hosted more than 30 children age eight to 16 at the Southern Lights Culture Camp.
The camp, which was first held in Pheasant Rump four years ago, moves to another subdivision of Yorkton Tribal Council. The children attending this year’s camp are from Pheasant Rump, Ocean Man and White Bear. [more] | Bad weather can’t bring a good time down

July 12 in Manor started out with winds that could blow a person over, but by supper time the only wind came from bulls bucking around the pen trying desperately to throw the cowboys off their backs. Organizers for the 29th annual Manor Fun Daze were more than happy to see that change in weather knowing it could have drastically affected the number of attendees to the event. [more] |
