The members of the Bits & Pieces Quilt and Craft Club were on a mission, Monday, April 16.

Members Gail Brady, Cathy Brown, Lori Brown, Marion Biram, Anna Erick, Lauren Hume, Rita Kapell, Debbie Kirchofer, Cathy McDonell, Ida Scott, Wendy Rounce and Wendy Walters responded to a 'Quilters Call to Action' issued by the Saskatoon Modern Quilt Guild via Facebook.

The Saskatoon guild asked quilters to make quilts in the Humboldt Broncos' team colours - green dark green, white, gold and black - which will be distributed to billet families, Broncos staff and board members, first responders (including RCMP members, EMTs and firefighters) and others impacted by the team's tragic accident in the communities of Humboldt and Tisdale.

The members of Bits & Pieces responded by holding a marathon quilting bee on Monday, April 16 in the Carlyle United Church with the intention of completing 10 quilts in Broncos' colors.

“We started at 2 p.m. and we'll be here until dark - until every quilt is finished,” says Wendy  Rounce.

“We all want to do what we can to show our support,” adds Wendy Walters. “And I have to say that our group is grateful for the support of Tanya Robertson of Sew & Sews in Carlyle, who not only donated 3.25 metres of fabric to us for this project - she also donated 28 metres of minky (a soft fabric used for quilt batting) to Humboldt.”

“Contributing in this way is one way - our way - of showing support for the people who are suffering as the result of this tragic accident,” says Rounce. “And I know each and every one of us wanted to come here today to do that.”
