With a lot of events cancelled in the country and province, Canada’s birthday was still celebrated at Moose Mountain Provincial Park and White Bear Lake Resort.
Moose Mountain Provincial Park was host to a parade consisting of some floats, decorated vehicles, classic cars and emergency service workers and vehicles.
The parade was enjoyed by those who were able to attend, as it snaked through the roads of the Park and cottagers were asked to view from their cabins if possible. For those driving to the event, they were asked to stay in their vehicles in order to practice physical distancing.
The Provincial Park is undergoing improvements to all the asphalt surfaces within its boundaries and the Main Beach parking lot was the destination for many who wanted to watch the parade. However, the Main Beach was cordoned off to most traffic due to these improvements, leaving limited parking only on the far side of the lot. It was perhaps the largest line-up ever the Park Gate had seen, as traffic backed up along the 209, (which is the main traffic artery access to park attractions) almost to #9 highway.
The annual fireworks at Kenosee were cancelled, but Canada Day fireworks enthusiasts could hop over to White Bear Lake Resort and take in their usual dazzling display that has become one of the July 1st go-to events in the southeast for many years.
Hotel Beach at White Bear Resort was the desired destination to view the show, with every available parking spot in use. Once again the crowd was asked to pay strict attention to the SHA physical distancing guidelines. Vehicles filled the south shore of the lake and Good Bird’s Point with car loads of spectators trying to get a view as anywhere along the lakeshore provides a wonderful spot to observe the fireworks. Some of those having the best view were on their watercraft anchored on the lake.
Between the two resorts, everyone could come together and celebrate Canada Day and by all reports, the “scaled-down” celebrations were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that attended.
