Canada Day Celebrations took place at the Carnduff Centennial Park this year, thanks to Choose Life Ministries.

This is the second year that Choose Life has put on the event. This year with COVID-19 restrictions, it was difficult to have the usual activities, but fun was still had by all.

Free swimming was offered at the Carnduff Swimming Pool, and it was the place to be on such a hot day. Music was playing at the park with DJ Hu. A concession was run by the Homestead for Hope with help from the Youth with a Mission Medicine Hat chapter.

There were volleyball and bocce ball games being enjoyed by all who attended. As usual, the fireworks at dusk did not disappoint. Many people parked around the Carnduff Ag grounds to watch the amazing display.

YWAM was in Carnduff as part of their outreach program. YWAM is a world-wide organization with the head program out of Kona, Hawaii. They offer a discipleship training program which consists of a six-month program blending classroom learning, small group activities, personal reflection, practical service and community living.

Due to restrictions the usual cold plate barbecue at the park was unable to happen. The ministry promoted local restaurants as an alternative to having supper at the park.

Choose Life Ministries is a non-profit organization that was established in 2012 by Shelley Boyes. It was founded to establish a place for young women between the ages of 18-29 to find freedom from life-altering challenges including substance abuse, mental illness such as depression and anxiety, unexpected pregnancy, the effects of physical and/or sexual abuse and challenges such as eating disorders and self-harm activities.

Choose Life was founded on five basic values which guide its actions as it seeks to support young women on their journey to freedom. At Choose Life, they strive to show, through word and deed, unconditional love and acceptance of the individual, without judgement, in a physical and emotional environment of safety and trust, so that each young woman might be empowered to achieve freedom from the bonds of past hurts.

They desire to exhibit these characteristics with excellence and accountability, underscoring the value we place on young women, as they seek to become all they were created to be.

Second Chance Thrift Stores have been started in many communities such as Carlyle, Carnduff, Estevan, Fort Qu’Appelle and Whitewood. These stores exist to raise funds for construction projects, to increase awareness of the ministry’s mission in Saskatchewan and to provide a service to the communities.
