The Envision Counselling and Support Centre is looking forward to the start of an important annual fundraiser.

The 50-50 for a Cause will see someone win up to $49,000. The winning ticket receives half of the ticket sales, while Envision will get the other half.

Envision can sell up to $100,000 in tickets, and the maximum for the grand prize is $49,000. Two early bird prizes for $500 each will also be drawn.

Ticket sales begin on Monday.

Tania Hlohovsky Andrist, who works in resource development for Envision, said 50-50 for a Cause is important for a couple of reasons. Envision provides a lot of services to rural communities, and so they hope to have strong support from communities beyond Estevan.

“We are an organization operating across the southeast, and our client base is growing due to various factors, but mostly because of the economic downturn, and with increasing usage it becomes an increasing cost,” said Hlohovsky Andrist.

The agency appreciates the support, and the fundraiser allows people to make a contribution to Envision, while having a chance to win a giant jackpot.

Proceeds will be directed towards Envision’s programming and other needs.

“Similar to any donations that we receive over the Christmas season, right now we’re funding to support our programming, our counselling program and all the admin costs that come along with it,” said Hlohovsky Andrist. “As we grow, the administration costs grow, and they are not covered by our provincial funding.”

Expenses such as office space and computer programs might not be glamourous, but they are necessary for client confidentiality and safety for an organization like Envision.

“These are things we are digging in and saving for,” she said.

The fundraiser will happen in partnership with Golden West Broadcasting in Estevan.

Hlohovsky Andrist noted the final day of sales will be Feb. 12 at the Estevan Bruins home game against the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The winning ticket will be drawn on Feb. 13.

Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.
