A fire drill was held at Arcola School on Tuesday, Oct. 8 with Kisbey Fire Department (KFD) in attendance.

Students exited the school promptly when the alarm sounded. It occurred just after 1 p.m., the students having just returned from the noon break.

KFD arrived in good time in the emergency vehicle “lights flashing”. This exercise was for the fire department’s benefit as well as the students. The firemen in full gear, entered the school to confirm everyone had exited. To make the drill more realistic, one of the exits remained locked.

The exercise was held in conjunction with Fire Safety Week. I am told by Vice Principal Eugene Brown, the school has a drill once a month, this one being different having KFD responding.

At the completion of the drill, the “all okay” was given by Ryan David, Kisbey’s fire chief.

The students then assembled in the school gym. Principal of Arcola School Ron Wardrope was very pleased with the exercise commenting, “response time was good”. Members of the fire department then spoke to students in the gym and went to each classroom after the assembly to discuss the importance of fire safety.
