Congratulations to the Carlyle Sr. Girls’ Volleyball Team for taking home the Championship this past weekend in Mega Volley X. Twelve teams from across the province participated in this annual tournament in the communities of Arcola and Carlyle. The Carlyle Cougars defeated the Lampman Grizzlies in the final and ended the weekend undefeated. A big thanks to all the volunteers, as well as Arcola School for co-hosting. The next action for the girls is this weekend in Broadview and Kipling. All the best!
Please wear an orange shirt on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis Webstad's story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools.
Picture Day is October 3.
