Visitors to Moose Mountain Provincial Park will soon have a new option for cooling down on hot summer days, as Kenosee Lake Bible Camp opens its pools for public swimming this weekend.

Kenosee Lake Bible Camp is located on a lakefront site within the boundaries of Moose Mountain Provincial Park and is home to a number of amenities, including a recently renovated indoor pool.

This is the first year that the pool has been open to the public.

“(The decision to offer public swimming) was spurred by … COVID-19 necessitating getting creative with how we can reach out to people and be involved with the community, but still get people out to camp and do new things,” said KLBC’s ministry director Clay Wiens.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this summer KLBC will be hosting fewer camps, retreats, and school groups than it would during a typical year.

“Our pool is not being used as much and so we just wanted to open it up and have another way to get the community out and enjoy this wonderful facility and place that God's given us,” Wiens said.

As of now, use of the pool will be on a first-come-first-serve basis with no pre-registration required. If the pool reaches capacity, swimmers may need to wait until the facility empties out before they can use it, Wiens said.

Overall, the public swimming initiative has been positively received by the community.

“We really have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of response that we've gotten,” Wiens said. “We weren't expecting quite the popularity it seems like it'll have.”

The pool will be open for public swimming from 1-5 p.m. Admission is by donation with a recommended donation of $5 per person.

Public swimming dates in June are: June 19, 20, 28 and 29.

Future public swimming days will be posted to KLBC’s Facebook page throughout the summer.
