Pearl Wilson (1924-2018)

Gladys Pearl Wilson passed away peacefully in her 94th year, on 18th of January ,2018 at Deer View Lodge Nursing Home in Wawota, Saskatchewan. Pearl was born in Wolseley at her grandparents’ home, first child of Elizabeth and John Lawrysyn.

Gladys Pearl Wilson passed away peacefully in her 94th year, on 18th of January ,2018 at Deer View Lodge Nursing Home in Wawota, Saskatchewan.

Pearl was born in Wolseley at her grandparents’ home, first child of Elizabeth and John Lawrysyn. Her home was in Kipling where she lived with her parents and three brothers.

After completing her schooling, she attended Normal School in Regina and pursued her dream of becoming a teacher.  Her first teaching job was at a country school, Arundel. In 1945 she married Lloyd Wilson, a local farmer. She accepted a teaching position as Helping Teacher in the Arcola School Unit and later taught in Glen Adelaide and Wauchope schools.  She spent the final years of her teaching career in Wawota High School where she was vice principal until her retirement.

Pearl and her husband, Lloyd raised their two children, John and Bonnie on their farm six miles south of Wawota and later moved to the town in 1970.

Pearl had a passion for Shakespeare and live theatre and enjoyed summer trips to Stratford, Ontario where she attended a marathon of plays.  She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries. She was a devoted Blue Jays fan.  Her flower garden always looked immaculate in the summer with pansies, peonies and petunias in full bloom. Pearl loved to bake and made an exceptional apple pie. She enjoyed volunteering in her community.

Pearl entered Deer View Lodge in December of 2009 and was well cared for until her passing.

Pearl is predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and John; in – laws (Grace & Andy) of Wawota; husband ,Lloyd (2006); son-in-law , Ken Ross (2017) of London ,Ontario ; brothers : Bud (Edna) & John all of Kipling.

Pearl out lived all of Lloyd’s siblings and their spouses; Sister-in-law , Ruby  ( Norman ) Jane of Wawota. Brothers-in-law, Henry (Marie) of Delta, B.C.; Rae(Jenny) of Port Moody, B.C., George ( Vivian ) of Wawota, Carl of Wawota.

She is lovingly survived by her son John  (Joan) Wilson of Wawota , her daughter Bonnie Wilson – Ross of London ,Ontario. She loved her four grandchildren , Glenn ( Katie) Wilson of Wawota , Dennis Wilson of Regina ,Graham of Halifax, N.S., Elizabeth of London, Ontario .  she was so proud to be  great grandma to Gavin Wilson of Regina. Her brother, Dennis (Freda) of Regina and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Pearl’s life will be held on (Saturday), the 10th of February, 2018 at 2:00.@ the Wawota Free Methodist Church, with Pastors Kevin  & Beverly Kay officiating .

A luncheon & time of fellowship will be held in the Cannington Wing, following the service. Internment in the Cannington Community Cemetery.
