Alida Weekly News

Congratulations to all the Grads

The winner of the Alida Rec. Board Sports Day BBQ Package was Kevin Mowat of Alida. Congratulations Kevin and enjoy your winnings.

We received a little rain shower in the early morning hours of June 6 – about one-tenth of an inch and it surely helped to cool the temperature down to being comfortable so one could enjoy being outside for a while without sweltering on the spot.

We sure did receive another rain on June 11. It was a real downpour with about two inches during the wee early hours of the day and then again just around noon another downpour with strong winds (another two inches). This rain will surely help the fields and gardens grow. Just what we all needed – nothing was damaged as far as I know of around here. Some trees lost a few small branches and of course some leaves.

Shelly Cowan and daughter Ainsley participated in the Estevan Dog Jog on June 5 and again on June 6, where they joined together with daughters/sisters Kelsey Rydberg and Lacie Nilsen in support of the Estevan Humane Society.

Happy birthday greetings are extended to the following – Cheryle Boutin, Jeremy Nielsen and Adele Hull (this week) and (this coming week) Shasta Lemieux, Kara McNish, Lucille Gervais, Rozanne McClung and Tiffany Hall. Hope everyone had and will have a great day and many more to come.

Graduations are now being planned for later this month – there will likely be some restrictions to follow once again, but I do hope that the graduates will be able to enjoy a special day someway. I do understand that there are grad parades in the making, even here in Alida. We have nine Grade 12 grads in Alida including our surrounding area – four attend Oxbow Prairie Horizon (Cordelia Patton, Charity Lemieux, Keiya Solomon and Xavier Gervais) and five at Redvers High (Sadie Potapinski, Thomas Peet, Jordan Marsh, Layne Kyle and Carson Longphee).

You’ll notice that a couple of the grads are actually from surrounding towns, however those grads attended playschool in Alida and have grandparents living (lived) here. The grad parade in Alida is planned for June 25 for the above mentioned students. Redvers held their graduation celebrations on June 11 with a parade throughout town and a ceremony was held at the rink.  Congratulations graduates and good luck in your future endeavors. Oxbow will be holding their grad on June 29.

Attending the Redvers graduation in honor of Thomas Peet were his escort Cloe, parents Parry and Lynette, brother Wendal, grandparents Kent and Mryla Holland, Amber (Holland) and Travis, as well as grandparents Brian and Margaret Peet, Patti Mowchencko and girls, Chad and Sam Peet and boys.

Also attending Redvers grad in honor of Sadie Potapinski were her parents Ken and Diane, Colby, Celine and Walker Potapinski, John Potapinski and Brooklyn Fitzpatrick, Julie Potapinski and Grace Moynagh (Milton, Ont.), Michelle Potapinski and daughter Hilary Sauder, and Agatha Potapinski.

We just received word that Marcel Belmore had passed away on June 5 at the age of 94 at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home in Ontario. Marcel was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Yvonne, brothers Armand and Wilfred, sisters Lima and Leda and nephew Kurtis. He is survived by his brother Joseph, nephews Kevin, Alan, Randy, John and Armand and nieces Marian and Darlene. A celebration of life will later be held in Redvers with internment at the family plot in Storthoaks Cemetery.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Leonard and Lil Patton and family on the death of their great nephew Shelby Patton, an RCMP member at Indian Head. He was killed in the line of duty on June 12 at Wolseley.

A very Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, granddads, uncles and brothers on June 20 – hope you all have a great day and that you enjoy your day with family and friends.
