We need our local hospitals OPEN

Reading letters to the editor concerning our hospital and doctors in Redvers, I have an autistic son in a wheelchair. He started having grand mal seizures one day after 5:00 p.m.

Reading letters to the editor concerning our hospital and doctors in Redvers, I have an autistic son in a wheelchair. He started having grand mal seizures one day after 5:00 p.m. Now to those of you who do not know, these seizures were less than a minute apart and some were just seconds. They could lead to status seizures which lead to coma.

I phoned someone connected to the Health Centre to see if I could take him in. They told me to phone 911. We had a doctor there at the time, but was unable to come and assist. All they had to do was give him medication by needle in the vein. So we thought, what if the ambulance in Redvers was out, so we loaded him in our car and went right past Redvers to Moosomin where they assisted us. Some joy ride that was, it was storming quite badly. We had to do this on three separate occasions. Once on a Saturday and another time after 5:00 p.m.

It gives you quite a feeling knowing you went right by a doctor in Redvers who could help you, but was unable to after 5:00 p.m. because the Health Centre was classified only as a clinic.
