We are writing in response to questions in the community regarding "What are you doing in the Arcola Hospital?"

December 24, 2012 was the beginning of the temporary suspension of services in the emergency and inpatient departments. Other departments remained open. Outpatient services are still available. Lab, x-ray and nursing departments are staffed and can provide assistance with your doctor's orders.

The nursing staff has been handling calls with public concerns about where and when to receive care. Because we are concerned about putting the "Patient First", we would like to make some suggestions about being prepared.

-Use Healthline and Public Health education

-Keep your prescriptions full - check refills/expires and plan ahead.

-Keep your gas tank full. If you have a family emergency you will need to drive out of Moose Mountain district to an open Emergency department (or follow an ambulance).

-Take your Health Services card and all medications as you may be seeing a practitioner not familiar with your information and history.

-Keep on hand - in your home:

-Over the counter medications; acetaminophen (pain control/fever), ibuprofen (pain/inflammation/fever), dimenhydrinate (nausea control-oral/suppose.), diphenhydramine (allergy relief), cough syrup. Take into account the ages in your household-adult and pediatric dosing.

-Normal saline spray/drops, ice packs, First Aid kit, antibiotic ointment/cream.

-Freezies, Jello, juices, broth, Pedialyte/electrolyte solutions.

We share your concerns and encourage you to share your stories and concerns with Sun Country Regional Health Authority.
