They say the dogs were still attacking the man when officers on the ground showed up at the home.

The release says both dogs then began to "aggressively advance" toward the officers, who were forced to fire their service weapons and stop the threat.

The 40-year-old man was transported to hospital, and police say he's being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Police say both dogs are dead, and that the man and the dogs both lived at the home where the attack occurred.
