Bantam girls back in regular league action

The Estevan Bear Cats were back to their regular schedule this week with competition against the Regina Tigers on Jan. 14 in Carlyle.

                  The Estevan Bear Cats were back to their regular schedule this week with competition against the Regina Tigers on Jan. 14 in Carlyle.

                  The team is made up of youth and coaching staff from the southeast including: Missy Biermann, Julie Frostad, Kamri Olfert, Karissa Elliot, Corey Purves, Riley Klein, Hanna Jaworski, Emily Frostad, Caydence Chapman, Kaysha Turner, McKenna Walls, Kenna Hagel, Kassidy Johnson, Kylie Davis, and Jesa Colliness for athletes and Brian Hagel, Ashley Miller, and Troy Turner on the coaching staff.

                  In action on Sunday, the Bantam A Girls took on the Regina Tigers in a close battle. Both teams went scoreless in the first period – a testament to their abilities on the ice both offensively and defensively.

                  The Tigers managed to sneak a goal past Missy Biermann in the second period, but the Bear Cats rallied together and McKenna Walls found the back of the opponent’s net with help from Kamri Olfert late in the third.

                  The game ended in a tie for regular action in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

                  According to the regular season standings on www.ssfhl.ca as of Monday, Jan. 15, the Bear Cats sit with 4 wins, 8 losses, and 5 ties giving them 13 points in the league.
