            Action in the Big Six League is coming ever closer to a close as teams compete in a best of five semifinal series. Games scheduled for Sunday, March 4, were rescheduled to Tuesday, March 6 – after The Observer deadline.

            The series currently see the Carnduff Red Devils tied with the Wawota Flyers with one game each. In the other semifinal the Redvers Rockets need one more win over the Bienfait Coalers to clench a spot in the final round.

Red Devils vs Flyers

            The Flyers took on the Red Devils in Carnduff on Friday, March 2. The first period saw the two teams post goals with Carnduff scoring one, while the Flyers buckled down and took two to the net. Goals for the Flyers in the first were Taylor Ernst off of Hunter Smith and Kayle Swanson from Taylor Ernst.

            The second period had the Flyers coming out on fire as they scored a goal within the first two minutes of play: Ryan Taylor sounded the horn off assists from Riley Riddell and Justin Lamontagne.

            Carnduff went without scoring in the second and both teams failed to capitalize on opportunities in the third leaving Wawota with the win and a tied series after March 2.

Rockets vs Coalers

            In the other semifinal match-up the Redvers Rockets lead the way with two games to zero as of March 5.

            The two teams met on March 2 in Bienfait where the Rockets controlled the game. It was a shutout for the Rockets who also went on to score three goals. One came in the first from Drew Hoff off assists by Kevin Mann and Corey Jones in the first period.

            The second period was dry, while the third saw the Rockets come to life earning two goals: Dakota Rose capitalized on an unassisted opportunity, while Todd Gervais marked up a goal off an assist from Brady Gaudet.

            Brady Gaudet – Redvers – leads with 10 points, Drew Hoff – Redvers – follows closely with 9 points, Wyatt Garagan – Bienfait – has 8, while Dylan Herzberg – Bienfait, Matt Audette – Carnduff, Trevor Geiger – Carnduff – all have 7 points.

Playoff Top Goalies

            Adrian Rubeniuk of Carnduff has one game under his belt and marked up a shutout in it for a 0.00 GAA. Thomas Bauche follows with two wins and a GAA of 1.50. Guillaume Blouin of Wawota has been solid between the posts with three wins and one loss, holding a GAA of 2.50; tied with Blouin is Shane Marsh of Redvers who has two games and a GAA of 2.50.
