Carlyle Minor Hockey Day has been an ongoing celebration of the sport in the community for many years. This year neighbouring towns participating in the competitive, yet very fun atmosphere included Arcola, Redvers, and Carnduff.

The Initiation teams each played a game at 9 a.m. with Arcola and Redvers as visiting teams in the fun action.

Carlyle’s Novice 1 took on Carnduff, while Carlyle’s Novice 2 competed against Arcola.

Carlyle’s Atom team took on Redvers, which also included a banner raising before the game to celebrate those on the team from last year who earned the league championship. Chase Himmelspach, Blake Robertson, Jakson Humphries, Kaden Piper, Nolan Riddell, Grady Benjamin, Ayven Standingready, Kale Arndt, Samantha Colpitts, Draeton Morrissette, Max Waugh, Tristan Dixon, and Keltin Slykhuis earned the title last year under the coaching of Kirk Himmelspach, Jeff Humphries, and Ashley Miller.

The Peewee team faced off against a Redvers team as well, while the Bantam team took on Carnduff in the final game of the day.

Admission to Carlyle Minor Hockey Day involved a donation to the Carlyle and District Food Bank: “In addition to the hundreds of food items donated during Carlyle Minor Hockey Day, just over $300 cash was raised for the Carlyle and Food Bank through donations collected…” Colleen Getten explained.
