The Carlyle U9 Cougars hit the ice to start their season the weekend of Nov. 21 and 22 and I’m sure I speak for many when I say I couldn’t be happier.
The team took on the Alameda Rink Rats in a spirited home and home series. The Cougars came out in midseason form, taking the home game on Saturday by a score of 37-1 and then cruised down Highway 9 to take the game in Alameda on Sunday by a score of 26-3.
With amazing play from returning U9 players such as Boston Shire, who seemed to get faster and more elusive as the games went on, as well as Trypp Fleming who was unloading slappers from the point, it’s no wonder the team didn’t have trouble finding the back of the net.
Another bright spot was returning player Hunter Nicholson, who showed off some amazing hockey IQ and flexibility, by throwing on the goalie pads in the first game, and then in the second game jumped up into the play and showed off some amazing offensive firepower.
First year players weren't to be under estimated either. Kip Geiger pulled out some filthy dangles and highlight reel rushes. Remi Haymore said "Not today Rink Rats" as he stifled rushes every chance he got and really injected some energy into the lineup.
