What a great night to be at the rink on Friday, Jan. 31.  Wing night to get you started, a chance to be the third contestant and watch the Pharmasave Chance To Win $25,000, a guaranteed 50/50 of $1,000, thanks to Salon 206, PureChem and Little Hawk, the free pizza give-away from The Office Bar and Grill and free oil change give-away from Merit Ford, and not to mention a guaranteed good hockey game between the Cougars and Wawota Flyers.

Remi Haymore was the Cougars 7th man.  He escorted the boys onto the ice with a huge grin. Great to see. This game was important to both teams, as regular season is almost over and these guys were tied at 17 points.  Your position in the standings determines who you will battle in playoffs.  Each team wants to be at the top or as high up the leaderboard as they can.

The whole game was action-packed with each team grinding it out.  The last 5 minutes of the first period, was when the board got lit up, as 3 goals were scored.  Wawota struck first, with Rose and McGonigal answering right back for the Cougars.  J. Matthewson, Struthers, Geiger and Brown were awarded the helpers.

Onto the 2nd and it was like watching good old playoff hockey. They crashed and banged, battling it out on the ice.  Riley Riddell lit it up in the second period for the Flyers, scoring 2 goals.  The Flyers were leading by one and with only 1 minute. With 38 seconds left, Johnstone and Rose make it happen for McGonigal. The game was tied at 3 after 40 minutes.

The Flyers would strike first in the third, but the Cougars responded with 3 goals and a 6-4 victory. Struthers and J. Matthewson each scored in the middle of the period and only a minute apart. With just 59 seconds left, Johnstone netted one with a nice pass from Struthers. Johnstone, Turgeon and Rose got the assists on the two previous goals.  Both goalies made some stellar saves.  It was a great game to watch.

Anticipation has been building for the past few weeks for the Pharmasave Chance to Win $25,000! Shooters were Devin Matthews, Aaron Hengen, and Leon Turgeon. None of the three managed to score and all were given $50.00 Pharmasave Gift Cards as a consolation prize. This was the 4th year that Carlyle Pharmasave has sponsored this contest.

The Cougars would like to thank everyone who came out to the game and to all of their amazing sponsors.  Everyone has been a tremendous support.

Stay tuned for our play-off schedule. See you at the rink.
