Racing a family affair for Manor’s Wilsons

The Wilson family in Manor had another good year on the dirt track ovals of southeast Saskatchewan.

I started racing in 2009. I bought a car from Rocky Alexander from Estevan. We had gone to races for years and watched. I had seen Rocky’s car for sale and said to my wife Alana, “Hey we should by this.”

She said we should and that’s how my racing career began and Wildwilly Racing was formed.

I got some sponsors and away we went racing.

Daryle (Doc) Runge from High Energy Performance in Estevan helped me big time and built my second car. He still helps us to this day. Thanks Daryle.

I raced Estevan Motor Speedway that year. In 2013 my son Kruz turned 14 and joined me in racing. I bought his first car from Stefan Klym. Through the years we have raced tracks at Minot and Williston in North Dakota, Winnipeg and Winkler in Manitoba, Emo in Ontario and Yorkton in Saskatchewan. We went on a hobby stock tour to Minnesota, where we raced Ada, Princeton, Brainer and Glyndon.

Kruz has won four feature wins and numerous heat wins in his career. He finished runner-up to the track champion this year at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

In my career I have won numerous heat wins but no features. Lots of seconds. This year one night I lead all the laps in the feature but spun myself out coming to the checkered flag. It was probably the worst moment of my career that I will never forget or forgive myself.

Anyways, on Sept. 18 we travelled to Swift Current and raced two nights. Kruz won the feature the first night and I finished fourth. The second night Kruz finished third and I did not finish because I cut a brake line. That was the end of our race season.

Our family loves racing so it makes it easy to do it. It cost money so we have sponsors. Through the years we have had a lot of sponsors and we can’t thank them enough.

This year we had Ok Tire from Carlyle, Bryan Barsness Consulting, Oilman’s Delight Spices (Roberta Barsness), Erp Pro Hardware Redvers, Manor Agencies, Bastable Farms, Fosters Audio and Video, Carlyle Motor Products, Integrity Maintenance and Primerica (Rafael Laurier).

Without these sponsors we would not be able to race. I would also like to thank my wife for letting us race. Our pit crew Brayden Rowley, Hayden Cutler, and Karen Rowley. Also want to thank our fans. Next year we plan on racing again so if anyone wants to sponsor us please get a hold of Mike Wilson or Kruz Wilson at 306-577-3273 or 306-575-8865.
