Zack Sharp has always loved baseball. This love coupled with his natural ability has led to a baseball scholarship. In the fall Sharp will head to Crown College in Minneapolis, MN.

Earlier this year Sharp had made a profile with a recruiting agency. After looking through this profile coaches began contacting Sharp about possibly playing for them in the fall. In the end 89 schools across the United States had spoken with and attempted to recruit him.

Ultimately he had to choose one deciding on Crown College. "Mainly the coach is just a really good guy, he's building a solid program, and the school has a great Communications program, which made it the best all around school for me." Sharp stated.

He will be taking a four year degree in Communications with a minor in Journalism.

Excited and nervous about what the fall will hold for him Sharp will visit the school in July. He, however, is currently focused on finishing off his season with the Double A team in Weyburn. Laughing that if their team is able to make Westerns he will be pressed for time at getting to Minneapolis, as Westerns are the 10th to 13th of August and he will have to move down the week after this.

One of the things Sharp is greatly looking forward to is playing in the Metrodome, the Minnesota Twins old stadium. "That will be interesting, excited and nervous for our first few games to be played in there." Sharp exclaimed.

Mike Gmetro, head coach of the Crown College baseball and golf team, is extremely excited about the opportunity he has to work with Sharp.

"The first thing I would say is that in starting the recruiting process I'm looking for more than just a baseball player. Skills are important but I'm looking for more as the game itself takes people in different directions. Throughout the course of a season they must deal with adversity, slumps, struggling teammates, and the general ups and downs of the season." Gmetro explained.

When speaking of Sharp, one of his top prospects, Gmetro stated, "Top talent and top character, that's what I see in Zack right away. He's the full package, a coach's dream. He has incredible skills and natural ability, he's coachable, and has incredible work ethic. Zack will be extremely successful for me right away and beyond."

Gmetro exclaimed that he believes Sharp has what it takes to eventually play professional ball. "I believe Zack can play professionally. He will only grow and get stronger here."

When recruiting Sharp, Gmetro only had the profile that had been created by Sharp including video of him playing. Through phone calls and email, they began to speak almost every day as Gmetro saw the talent and potential in Sharp immediately. "He will be a starter from day one and he won't take it for granted, he's the type of kid that you can build a program around."

Not only will Sharp be playing baseball for Crown College, but he has been asked to play on the golf team as well. "I usually just play golf for fun, something to do, but he [Gmetro] asked if I played any other sports so I told him golf. He asked for a few videos of that too, and wants me to be on the golf team, too." Sharp said.

"He will be a dual sport athlete and play golf for me, too. He can hit over three hundred yards with a drive, so in the fall he will play golf and in the spring he will play ball for me." Gmetro stated.

Sharp is looking forward to finishing his season in Weyburn. He will be ready to start his new adventure in the fall and looks forward to the new experiences, which will face him.
