Oxbow Huskies begin playoff action

Oxbow Huskies travelled to KW Oil Kings in Game 1 of a two-game total point series on Wednesday, Feb. 6. This night was also the inaugural Oil Kings salute to the local officials.

Derek Cooney scored their first goal, assisted by Kolby Fleury and Kyle Gessner. The Oil Kings scored three goals in the first period ending that period with a 3-1 lead.

Seconds into period two the Oil Kings scored again. Oxbow Huskies also added another point in the second period by Matt Weinrauch with assists going to Blake Brooks and Ryley Giblett.

The Huskies Derek Cooney scored their third and final goal in the third period. With just three seconds left in the game the Oil Kings added another goal.

KW Oil Kings recorded taking 35 shots on net to the Huskies 30.

Officials were kept busy at this game with six minor penalties assessed to each team and five-minute and a game misconduct to each team.

The Huskies who were down by two goals welcomed the KW Oil Kings on Friday that same week for Game 2 of the two-game total point series.

Both the Huskies and the Oil Kings scored a goal apiece in the first period. Points for the Huskies went to Levi Barnstable with assist going to Steven Henderson.

Each team went on to score three goals apiece in the second period. Corey Fitzpatrick with the goal, Klae Bayda and Reed Loucks with the assists; Kayne Ward with the goal and assists going to Kolby Fleury and Chad Hancock; Derek Cooney with the goal and Kayne Ward with the assist.

These two teams tied it up in the third period with each team scoring one. Scoring his second goal for the Huskies was Levi Barnstable, assisted by Kolby Fleury.

Very few penalties were handed out in this game with two minors given to the Oil Kings. The Huskies received four two-minute penalties and one four-minute.
