The Cougars had an action packed weekend with hockey.  It started out Friday night when they took-on the Oxbow Huskies.  The rink was full with fans again as there was a guaranteed $500 50/50, thanks to Salon 206, a ticket blitz on the 2018 Wildcat Sport Side x Side and a “chuck-a-puck” for the kids.

Congrats to Joan Geiger who won the $100 gift certificate to The Office Bar & Grill donated by the PureChem Cougars and The Office Bar & Grill.  Duane Bye was the lucky winner of the 50/50, Jared Valentine wins the Office Pizza and Dawson Galbreith won the “chuck-a-puck”!

The Cougars had Keegan Winkler and Emmitt Fleming as their MVP’s to skate with them before the puck dropped.

It only took a minute for the first save of the game when Oxbow had a quick shot trying to be the first team on the board.  Audette denied them and then it was down to the other end where Clayton Geiger snipes one past Tyler Meyers, getting the Cougars to chalk one up first. The assists went to Ben Johnstone and Brandon Lequyer.

Marc Shaw scored a beauty goal at the halfway mark with assists going to Geiger and Kelly Currie.  The CMP Courgar powerplay led to a 3-0 lead for Carlyle with a goal from Brett Turgeon and helpers going to Kelly Currie and Mitchell Morrison.

The scoring continued with Kelly Currie netting one 3 minutes in.  Assists went to Ben Johnstone and Nathen Deck.  Oxbow got on the board shortly after with Bayda scoring from Henderson and Holt.

Johnstone rips one in at the halfway point with help from Brett Turgeon and Kelly Currie.  Oxbow responded with a goal from Charles Needham.  It’s a 5-2 game heading into the third.

Audette makes a beauty save on Oxbow’s power play with two Cougars in the bin.  The Huskies take advantage of having an extra men and Holt scores their third goal.  Mason Bellanger, with  a helper from Ty Currie, gets the Cougars rolling again.

Cole Skjonsby gets the Huskies another goal, 8 minutes into the period.

Cooper Fox and Brett Turgeon each scored one with the assists going to Brent McClean, Kelly Currie and Ben Johnstone.

Audette comes through with another huge save, this one being on a Husky breakaway!  The crowd celebrates our goalies’ huge save.  Lucky for us, our fans have been able to do this, numerous times this season.  Lawson sneaks one in with 16 seconds left and it’s a 8-5 final for the Cougars.

Saturday night, the Cougars headed north to take on the Flyers.  It was quite the game with each wanting nothing more than to earn the two points.  Wawota struck first with a goal from Ryan Taylor.  Sam Matthewson responded a few minutes later with help from Zach Brown and Korby Boutin.  Marc Shaw gave Carlyle the lead, ending the first with a 2-1 lead.  Nathen Deck and Ben Johnstone were credited with the assists.

Into the second, and wanting to take a commanding lead, Deck snipes with help from Shaw and Johnstone, making it a 3-1 match.

Wawota fights back and scores two goals from Frater and West scoring on a Cougar penalty kill.  It is now tied at 3 and we’re heading into the third.

Ben Johnstone gives the Cougars back the lead with help from Geiger and Deck.  Wawota isn’t leaving the score like that, when they come back and tie the game back up, with a goal from Taylor Ernst.  It’s 4-4 and we’re heading into OT.

The battle continued, but neither team could get one in the sudden death overtime.  It’s not easy being a fan as everyone’s hearts were thumping and they were all praying to the hockey Gods for their team to come out on top!  It’s off to a shoot-out!

It is Shaw and Johnstone for the Cougars and Riddell and Frater for the Flyers.  The Flyers score and win the game.

The Cougars got 3 points on the weekend and are currently in first place with 12 points.  Ben Johnstone, keeps his post, leading the league in points and our Nathan Deck is currently in fifth.

This Friday, starts The Pharmasave Chance To Win $25,000! It is also Ugly Christmas Sweater Night and bring a teddy bear to be donated in our Teddy Bear Toss!

See you Friday!
